Selection Process
Dracut High School seniors apply for DSF scholarships by filling out an application form issued in the
Guidance Department in the March/April timeframe.  The Guidance Department attaches the student’s
high school transcript to the student’s application.  The Guidance Department then “blinds” (i.e.,
removes all personal student information) and numerically codes the completed package.

All eligible applications are then submitted to the Dracut Scholarship Foundation selection
subcommittee, which reviews and awards the scholarships.  Selection is based primarily on scholastic
achievement and participation in school/community activities.  Financial need, ethnic/racial
background, and specific honors or characteristics (such as “is an athlete”) are NOT part of the DSF
award criteria.

The selection subcommittee deliberates and recommends the number and amount of scholarships and
monetary awards to the full DSF Board of Directors for approval.  The President of the DSF, with the
High School Principal, cross-references the coded applications with the Guidance Department’s
confidentially held list.  The winning senior recipients are announced at Pride Night, receive recognition
at graduation, and have their names published in the DSF annual brochure.

The DSF selection subcommittee does not include any parent of a graduating Dracut High School
senior.  The selection committee does not have access to any personal student information – including
student names.
